Frequently asked questions

Short answers to the questions that come up most. If you have a problem that isn’t covered here, see Troubleshooting.

Small groups of two or more people who work together and also share money: a studio or workshop, partners in a small business, housemates, or friends splitting the cost of a trip. Three complete examples are in Case studies.

Yes, through the web app. Open Hamkar in Safari and use “Add to Home Screen” from the Share menu so it sits next to your other apps. There is no separate iOS app. On iPhone and iPad, notifications only work on iOS 16.4 or later, and only when you open Hamkar from the home screen icon. Install the web app

No. Download the installer from this site. It needs Android 8 or later and is about 2 MB. The web app and the Android app share one account.

No. The Hamkar interface is Persian only, right to left. This guide is also written in English, and the English pages show each button’s Persian label next to its English name.

Yes. For example, one team for work and one for a trip with friends. Switch between them with the Your workspaceفضای کاری شما list in the menu. Notifications from all your teams land in one inbox, and on an Android phone they’re grouped under each team’s name.

No. Hamkar has no offline mode and needs an internet connection to show or record anything.

No. Hamkar notifies you in its own inbox, in the browser and in the Android app. Email is only used for password recovery links, and only if the server has email set up.

How many currencies can I use? What about decimals?

Section titled “How many currencies can I use? What about decimals?”

Each team has one currency, and you choose its name, such as toman, rial or dollar. Hamkar doesn’t convert between currencies. Amounts are whole numbers, up to 1,000,000,000,000 per transaction; if your money uses decimals, pick the smaller unit. After the first transaction, the currency can’t be changed.

You enter dates on a Gregorian calendar, and Hamkar shows them in the Persian calendar on its pages. CSV exports use Gregorian dates.

No. Hamkar’s shared accounts are ledgers you keep yourselves. Hamkar doesn’t move any money and doesn’t read transactions from a bank. Shared accounts

On Hamkar’s own server. All data, including attachment files, is in a single database on that server. A backup copy is made every day and the last seven are kept. The site doesn’t load any outside services or scripts to display its pages.

The password itself isn’t stored; only a one-way hash of it (bcrypt) is kept. Failed sign-in attempts are limited to stop password guessing. A sign-in on each device stays valid for 180 days after you last used it.

What’s in a phone notification, and where does it go?

Section titled “What’s in a phone notification, and where does it go?”

A notification contains the team name, what happened, who did it, and details such as an expense’s title and amount or the start of a comment. Android app notifications pass through Google’s Firebase Cloud Messaging service, and browser notifications through that browser’s notification service. If your phone hides sensitive content on the lock screen, you’ll only see “new event in your team” there.

Only members of that team. Someone who leaves the team loses access to the attachments too.

If I leave a team, what happens to the expenses I recorded?

Section titled “If I leave a team, what happens to the expenses I recorded?”

They stay. Your name remains in balances and suggested settlements marked as a former member, so the others’ books stay correct and they can still settle up with you. Managing members

Does deleting my account erase everything?

Section titled “Does deleting my account erase everything?”

Not everything. Teams where you were the only member are deleted completely. In other teams your expenses, settlements and comments stay, but your name changes to «کاربر حذف‌شده» (deleted user), because other people’s balances depend on them. Your email and password are replaced too. Deleting your account

I deleted something by mistake. Can I get it back?

Section titled “I deleted something by mistake. Can I get it back?”

No. Hamkar has no trash and deletions can’t be undone. That’s why most deletions ask for confirmation first; only deleting a task comment happens without asking.

The current version has no button to remove a single attachment. The only way inside the app is to delete the transaction and record it again with the right file. Comments and files

No. The email can’t be changed after the account is created. You can change your name and password in Profileحساب کاربری.

On the sign-in page, tap Forgot your password?رمز عبور را فراموش کرده‌اید؟ If the server doesn’t send email, which is currently the case for h.alavi.vip, ask the person who runs the Hamkar server to create a one-hour link for you. Sign up and sign in
